I'm looking at November and seeing a blank calendar. What a beautiful sight. I have no plans between now and next Monday night's class. No social plans, I mean. I have arranged to take Monday off so I have the additional pleasure of a three day weekend coming up. I'm not going anywhere. To stay home, to sleep in, is recreation enough. I'm taking advantage of it, of course. I have an appointment with the Dean of Arts and Social Science to review my music credits from the University of Washington with an eye towards equivalent courses at Wuthering Heights Community College. Depending on what she says I'll graduate at the end of either Spring 2002 or Fall 2002. We had quite a few trick-or-treaters last night. I was thrilled. I was afraid not many kids would go out after all the talk about playing it safe and only going to friends' houses, or avoiding the malls because of some unspecified threat. But it wasn't a lot different from last year, and we gave out plenty of candy. I missed most of the rush since I had an appointment, but I did see a fairy princess, a spook, a black cat, and several examples of it's-a-costume-if-I-say-it's-a-costume worn by 11 year old boys who clearly felt too old to be trick-or-treating but were unable to resist the lure of free candy. I enjoyed every visit. I wore my own it's-a-costume-if-I-say-it's-a-costume to work. I put on my longhaired wig, a blue velvet tunic, blue jeans, sandals, and every ring, bauble, necklace, and bracelet I owned. Being a hippie was fairly comfortable, which is always my aim when wearing a costume on the job. Since business unaccountably picked up this week I had lots and lots of walk-ins to admire my outfit. The mailman was especially stunned by my hair. I guess he doesn't remember my real hair was that long only two years ago. At any rate, I was booking trips like crazy all day, a huge relief after last week's dismal lack of business.
Being busy at work is a wonderful thing. Having nothing to do after work is even better.
