I went to see the counselor at WHCC and said, "Please, Mr. Juju Man, get me the hell out of college as quick as you can!" He said to me, "Child, take History 240, some kind of 2 credit Personal Development course, take a placement test to test out of Freshman Comp., make sure your UW music credits are equivalent to our music credits, and we gonna give you that Associate of Arts in Music." I am one happy, happy college student tonight. See, night students don't need to take Physical Education at all, and the requirements for an A.A. are a teensy bit less stringent than the university system so I don't have to take Speech, and I don't have to take Statistics, and I don't have to take a lab course, and I don't have to take Political Science. No! I don't! All I have to do is take two classes and a test next semester, and I'll be done with my General Education Requirements. Then I have to get the Dean of Music to sign off on as many course equivalents as I can muster, and that's virtually all of them. And then, O Best Beloved, I can apply for my degree. Why, I might have it this time next year.
I am deeply relieved. I think this is going to work best for me. If, in the future, I find I want to try for a B.A. I will do it when I can go full time and get the missing credits CSU requires out of the way all at once. Meanwhile, I'll be able to say with perfect truth that I am a college graduate with a degree in music. You cannot imagine the joy that sentence will give me.
