The top ten favorite places entry seems to be a popular one judging by the number of visitors. What I really like is the number of people writing to tell me their fave places. I got two endorsements of Iceland as wholly fabulous, a long list of great places to visit in Japan, one vote for a cottage in Wensleydale, another for the cafe at Bondi Beach, Australia, some suggestions for Europe, ideas on where to go in Arizona, and a recommendation for gardens in Portland, Oregon. Thanks, guys, those were great. I'm keeping the emails as a resource for my next trips.

Quiet at work again. Quiet evening at home, mostly spent lolling on my bed reading the latest Sister Frevisse mystery and pondering the exquisite writing. It has a winter setting, and I discovered in myself a longing for cold northern climates where snow actually falls. A momentary aberration, I'm sure. I don't miss the short days you get during the winter up north in Seattle.

Not that this is anything compared to the four hour days I experienced in Iceland during my December visit. You've no idea what a total triumph my photograph of an old lighthouse on a lonely stretch of coast represents unless you realize how little time I had to shoot. Not only is it day, but there's sunlight illuminating the tip of the lighthouse. It was approximately 25F to boot. My fingers shook so badly none of my photos of the geysirs came out. I think I'll go back in summer and experience the famous midnight sun. At least I'll be warm.

Unlike now. Man, my feet are icy. I abandon this in favor of bed, the somnolent company of my husband, and two cats to keep my toes warm.
