Have I ever mentioned we have two paintings by an elephant? Lithographs, actually, and we had them properly framed. Ruby, an Asian elephant at the Phoenix Zoo, is quite a good artist, too. We have one from her blue period, and one entitled, Fire Truck. Supposedly she grabbed a brush once after the fire engines made a trip to the zoo. There is certainly a gorgeous, flamelike quality to the oranges and reds she swirled over the canvas. I'd be glad to collect more, but these are the only ones issued so far. I think there could be quite a market for this sort of thing. Ruby apparently gets a lot of pleasure from painting, and you have to suppose there's not much else to do when you're stuck in behind cement walls with a lot of people staring at you. Maybe someday there will be elephants all over the U.S. expressing their deepest, innermost feelings in a kind of paint therapy. Hey, ten thousand monkeys sitting at keyboards have already invented Usenet.
