Help, I'm trapped in the stone age. My Performa died last night. I am currently using a Mac Plus in combination with a keyboard that has no arrow keys or command key on it, connecting via a 1200 baud modem, and staring at a black and white monitor that is 6"x6". I have no access to a browser, or any of my files on my hard drive. I am deeply, deeply bitter that this happened on a Friday night. Accept my apologies for any odd html errors; they will have to be fixed after I get my regular computer up and running. Naturally, I will be unable to review any sites for Archipelago, so please hold off submitting them until at least May 1st. Thanks very much. When the computer comes back, I will begin the process of transfering everything to my new account at Mindspring. I will retain this site's URL for the month of May without updating it, and put in a meta tag to fling people over to the new site. My email address of lucy@well.com will be good through the month of May as well; after that, I'm having to give up my beloved WELL account in order to pay for the commercial Internet account. This is something I've wanted to do for several months and I can't afford both. Anyway, no journal entries for a bit. I don't know how long the Performa will be in the shop. It's remarkable to me that this poor old thing has chugged along, performing like a trooper with nary a hardware problem, but the three year old computer has just barfed itself into oblivion. At least sending and receiving email isn't any different on the old war horse. I miss the color option, and a screen bigger than my face, but it has a certain charm to be bashing away on the noisy keyboard again in that bone knives and bearskins kind of way.
