What a weekend. I had a social life, and I'm just about worn out from it. This stuff takes practice, you know. I enjoyed myself tremendously, but I kind of hope no one else blows in for awhile. Bob Webber came to town after attending the IETF convention in Memphis (I don't know what it stands for, but it's something to do with Internet standards and practices). I wasn't sure I was going to be good company, what with the upcoming surgery on the dog and my profound guilt, but in fact, it was great to have someone around. Bob is very good company. Cathy Doyle was also here, attending a librarians' convention in Nashville. She came over for dinner and I indulged myself by making comfort food in bulk: roast chicken, mashed potatos, gravy, baby peas, and deep dish apple pie. We ate ourselves silly, I can tell you. Both Bob and Cathy are science fiction fans, so we had a delightful gossip about all our friends. I'm way out of the gossip loop these days. I used to be famous for knowing everything about everybody on three continents, but my glory days are long over. Besides, no one's done anything interestingly scandalous in ages. John helped me get my sense of humor back about Dixie by refering to her as "Lumpy" just before he went out the door to work on Friday. I had a moment of being absolutely appalled at his callousness -- and then cracked up laughing, and kept laughing every time I thought of it that day. I'm sure you'll all be fascinated to learn that I was so impressed by the improvement in the computer with the addition of enough memory to run everything that I went hog wild and ordered up a 33.6 modem. Weehaw doggies, am I going to be a happy woman later today when it arrives. Speed! CPU! Reliable tools! I am looking forward to not waiting an eternity for pages to load. After a gaily abandoned weekend of chatting and amusing myself, I had to buckle down and get a web page design hammered out for Kim Huett in Australia. We're having some interesting email trouble, but I hope that's being solved. Meanwhile, I'm discovering how something that looks good in MSIE looks like dog doo in Netscape, and I'm not pleased at all. In fact, I need to get back to sorting through the masses of nested tables I set up. Au revoir, mes petits.
