Imagine how thrilled I was to slap down five pages of penis images at Kinko's yesterday and ask for transparencies. The elderly manager gave me a sour look. I diffidently explained it was for a school paper. "Ya seem pretty old to be learning about sex edjercation," he commented drily and went off to make the copies. Everyone's a comedian. So, yes, we gave our presentation on the human male reproductive organ in Biology tonight. We were great. We made the class laugh several times. The professor said we did extremely well, and particularly complimented me on my part. We got a B. Why? Because we read some of our information from pieces of paper. C-girl, Gabe and I made with the amusing asides and witty off-the-cuff remarks so we didn't just stand there reading without making eye contact. We had excellent transparencies, and a nice balance between facts and fun. But the professor didn't consider that good enough for an A. Pretty rich coming from someone who lectures us with her eyes closed and never makes eye contact unless someone stands right in front of her. I am so disappointed with this course. Our professor is joyless, uninterested in teaching, and very obviously bored. Well, at least my life is interesting and amusing. I am especially happy because this morning I booked John and myself a vacation in Antigua. Exotic, romantic, incredibly beautiful, and foreign, my favorite combination. We're not going until October, but I'm enormously pleased about it. It's quite a small island so there won't be much in the way of obligatory sightseeing. Instead, we'll simply dream away the day on a sugary white sand beach with cerulean waters lapping at the shore, then dine by torchlight under the stars while a Caribbean steel drum band plays. There will be rum drinks, and unusual food, and the sound of the tropics, and wonderful photo opportunities, and no cats to take up all space at the foot of the bed and then squabble and romp the minutes the lights go out. Paradise, in fact. This is some year. My first Caribbean vacation and my first cruise after ten years of being a travel agent. I am so glad these opportunities have come up at a time when I could take advantage of them. They're going to enrich my career and my personal life in many ways.
And a B just doesn't matter that much after all.
