Aries Moon

Look! I have mousetails on my mousetail plant! And the dicentra, which is barely the size of my hand, is already making its heart-shaped flowers. I saw the first frond of freesia buds lifting up from the main stalk, too. My garden is hurrying into bloom.

Two mice standing on their heads. Baby dicentra.

I discovered both of these when I got home from the house inspection this afternoon. Today was sunny and beautiful, and normally I would have been gardening like mad but instead I documented it with the camera. There's a lot to be done, but knowing we're going to be moving in three weeks means scavenging for pots to plant the ixia in, making decisions on what to take and what to leave (byebye beautiful pink geranium, purple fuchsia, blue monarda, and the gorgeous ostrich fern), and generally planning instead of doing.

The so-called Christmas tulips. Siberian squill.

I still can't figure out why Dutch Bulbs labelled these vibrant pink things "Christmas" tulips, but they're cheery and profuse so I'm actually rather pleased with them. To the right, my Siberian squill looks marvelous with the golden yellow daffodils they share a container with, fulfilling my autumn wishes when I planted them.

A drift of daffodils. Daffs and squill.

I'm grateful all the container plants survived the deluge of February. It seemed to rain for three straight weeks. I definitely have four kinds of daffodils blooming, and they're definitely not blooming when I thought they would -- I ordered early, mid season, and late, but everything came up at once. It looks quite pretty, and I've got a dozen in a vase in my house as well, filling the room with a delicate, springtime scent.
