The peninsula is awash with the aftermath of two winter storms which made landfall within 24 hours of each other. The skies are full of roiling clouds, deep grey and silver with their burden of rain. Everyone wears makeshift hats or drags coats over their heads to ward off the falling drops. There are relatively few umbrellas about. Peninsula people must suffer from Rain Macho.
My internet service provider lost its 'net connectivity all of Sunday and a good portion of Monday. The phone lines are still iffy, so I am having trouble getting information ftp'd. Email works just fine, thank goodness, or I'd start to feel deeply cranky and isolated. Well, maybe I'm just a tad cranky already. Shhhh. Don't tell.
One of the reasons I'm having some trouble maintaining a sunny, happy mood is the plethora of fabulous travel bargains crossing my desk each day. 7 days in Greece, only $299! 10 days in Turkey, only $499! Huatulco and Oaxaca, only $159! It drives me out of my mind. Sure, I haven't got the money or the time off, but that doesn't stop me from excitedly calculating whether or not I could take advantage of these trips each time I get a new fax. I shouldn't complain, I really shouldn't, because I've been added to my company's IATA list which means I'm now eligible to take trips at agent rates. For the last three months I haven't even had that option, being on the normal 90-day probation as a new employee, so I should cheer up. It's simply very hard on me to see bargains pass me by. I didn't get into the travel business for the glamour of it, you know? Wanna travel. Wanna travel NOW.
Siiiiiiiiiiiiigh.
I suppose I could go outside and pretend I'm in England. It's green enough, and grey enough. It's certainly damp enough. But I don't know how long I could maintain the illusion. I can tell I'm not really in England. There's not enough umbrellas.
