I finally got my first A in History. It was a 90.47%, a real squeaker. I must remember fatalism and trips to Hawaii are the key to my high scoring since actual studying hasn't done me much good. We evaluated our teacher tonight. I had a few pungent comments on his test preparation and practices. He's sure to recognise my handwriting but what the hell, he probably isn't going to be surprised that I disapprove of the constant misdirection of our studying. Besides, he doesn't get to read them until after the semester is over. Because the stupid take-home test had a question the textbook did not supply an answer for we got to see the first half hour of Saving Private Ryan tonight, a treat I could have done without. Thankfully, he forwarded through a lot of the landing slaughter. Mainly he wanted us to see the bit where someone notices a woman has lost three of her four sons because there's a line in which an officer says the Ryan boys were split up after what happened to the Sullivan boys. Bingo: answer 10b. Also, I discovered the final question's answer was based on one of the references listed in the bibliography of one of the forty articles we had to read for the take-home test. We cannot get a fucking break! That's insane! Why would we be tested on secondary reference material? I finished the test in class and handed it in. Then, of course, we had a pop quiz. The only answer I did not know was the motto of the 100th Battalion and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team ("Go For Broke!"). I was sorely tempted to make it up ("Bite My Non-White Butt, Hitler!") but I refrained. As it happens the information was from a video we watched several weeks ago during which I fell asleep. See previous entries regarding the wisdom of showing videos to night students. So, no notes on it, no luck, no answer.
Also no paper yet. Maybe next week. I would kind of like to know what he thought of it, though I fear a fair amount of "you did not adequately support this point." I can't bear to think about the bibliography. Ew, ew, ew. Time to go watch this week's Buffy which John thoughtfully taped, and I pray it's neither zany nor kooky. Scary would be fine. I'd really like to see more of that new principal, too. D.B. Woodside is hot stuff.
