November already? Damn. I love October, I'm not ready for it to be over. October is the essence of autum, all colorful leaves and golden fields and the days getting delightfully cold and dark in a sudden rush. The O in October reminds me of a big orange pumpkin. November is just blah. Nothing fun happens in November except Thanksgiving dinner which admittedly is my favorite meal of the year. But it's not enough to make up for it not being October any more. I shouldn't mind so much. The leaves haven't finished turning color and are mostly on the trees. In my head I still live in Seattle, I guess, where the changes come sooner and last longer. It's cold and dark from the end of September to the beginning of April up there. Here, it's actually quite sunny most of the winter although not warm at all. We don't get the long rains, or the bitter damp, or snow of any significance. The seasonal changes are muted compared to the north. Still, I don't know if I'll ever think of this weather as normal. The trick or treaters took all our candy so it was a successful Halloween. I was gone for virtually all of it. I was, indeed, one of two people who came to class, and I was the only one who took my quiz. The nice part was Evan went over it with me once I turned it in and showed me where I went wrong with the negative exponents (curse them). By the time I got back there were just two little candy bars left in our giant bowl so we reluctantly turned off the luminarias and the porch light. By 8:30 it was mostly roaming hordes of teenagers, anyway. Sorry, I don't give candy to "kids" with stubble. I've got an appointment with someone at the College of Notre Dame in two weeks to discuss my transcripts and see how much of it would apply towards their Bachelor of Arts degree. My heart soared when she told me over the phone they did not require math beyond Algebra II. Huzzah, no more math if I attend CND! She suggested I might like to do a Liberal Arts degree but this turned out to be a general spread of courses and would require me to take all kinds of stuff I have no interest in like Child Psychology and U.S. Government. She also thought maybe I'd like to finish my degree in Music since I have so much of it done, but that's not what I want. I want to study English literature in depth. I don't mind taking an Art History or Comparative Religion course along the way, but I want to concentrate heavily on what interests me. Otherwise I might as well just take continuing education courses without getting a degree. I shall not be swayed.
Though that Greek and Roman History course looked really interesting. And the Women in French literature course. And I've almost certainly got a minor in Music done but I wouldn't mind joining one of the choirs....
