Apparently, I am not entirely well yet. I fell asleep at 8:30 last night and although I planned to get up early in the morning, a la Lizzie, and do a spot of writing I did not actually rise until 7:30 which is my normal time. Bother. A whole night gone with nothing to show for it but, er, a fairly awake and alert self. Oh, well. It came in useful at work today. Instead of nodding over my computer after lunch I was able to devote myself to making a zillion phonecalls. For a change, I dialed out more often than I took a call.

Today's Daily Doofus was a hapless surfer dude who sat at my desk and started asking where he could go for a thousand bucks. When? Like, next week. (Not too far from home for that price, then.) No problem, we could send him somewhere next week. What did he like to do on vacation? Like, see weird places, dude. Cool! Easter Island? Sumatra? Mongolia? No, he was thinking more along the lines of Europe. (Inward sigh.) Did he have a current passport? Uh, no. Forget Europe, I replied, seeing any chance of commission evaporate. Grand Canyon? Been there. Yellowstone? Same. Bahamas? Too far. Baja? Too hot. How about Mendocino? Dude! He got all happy about that suggestion. Decided to take the dog and his truck and drive to the Russian River. Didn't buy a thing. Left after high-fiving me.

I live to serve.
