We went to visit Violet, the dog we're considering adopting, after work today. I couldn't wait until the weekend. We spent some time with her and one of the shelter attendants in an encounter area which was a large room with dog toys and chairs. We liked Violet a lot. She is sweet, gentle, and playful with a cheerful personality. She seemed very responsive to us and came over for lots of cuddles when she wasn't chasing her ball or investigating the corners of the room. She isn't much of a barker, according to the chart on her, and although she likes walks she is not a high energy, high maintenance type. Perfect for us, really. Alas, we can't adopt her right away as our yard needs to have the north side fenced in and some sort of gate set up. We can put up a wire fence quickly, but I don't quite know how we'll do the gate. It probably won't happen this weekend, what with our visitor and so much socializing to do, so we'll work on it through the next week. She may no longer be available by the time we have this done, but we'd have to do it for any dog so we may as well get going.

I have to tell you, though, there was another dog there that grabbed my attention. His name is Mr. Stubbs. He has short little legs and wonderful black hair on a sturdy frame. I bet he weighs about 35 pounds. Kind of like a Corgi crossed with a Bernese Mountain dog if you can wrap your mind around that. He is nine years old, though, and that's a lot older than we were looking for. Still, what a name.

It was fun to spend time hugging a wriggly dog again, and get my face licked. I love dogs.
