It got this close to triple digits today. I enjoyed it every moment I could escape the indoors. Hot, sunny, and no significant humidity to glaze my brow with a sheen or stain my clothes with rivulets of sweat. It felt good to stand in the golden light while it bounced off surfaces and danced over the pavement in sizzling, wavering lines. The glare was bold, necessitating sunglasses and hands shading eyes, squinting up at the dark blue sky and back down at the freshly painted gaudy red curbs before stepping into the crosswalk. The juice bar was crammed at lunchtime, everyone suddenly realizing how delicious yogurt and sherbet and fruit would taste now that summer was underway. The colors were deep and glorious: heavy-headed flowers, gleaming hood ornaments, tanned skin, rippling water in the bay, flags snapping in the langourous breeze.
This is the best summer I've had in years.
