Okay, I've started my Garden Journals web ring. If anyone wants to join, go here.

I've just heard Robert Lichtman, fannish fanzine fan and longtime friend, is in the hospital after a serious car accident. I believe he's supposed to go home tomorrow, so I'll wait until then to phone, but argh! Why didn't my fannish network have this information? Usually when someone has a problem I hear about it within a day or two. The only people who knew, apparently, besides his lady friend, were people in Seattle. I don't expect to feel so isolated from important news in the heart of a large fannish center like the Bay Area.

Garden update: I have purchased a pair of astilbe to reside in the former squirrel arena. I've no idea what color they'll be, but I love their foliage so I don't much care. With my luck, they'll be pink, ugh. I also bought some purple and white torenia (aka wishbone plant), and three purple ageratum (aka floss flower, though I've never heard anyone use either of those common names). I have put the torenias and the lobelia in Dixie's garden spot near where she's dug out two big holes to sun herself in, but have no fear! I put the rest of the white fencing up there. The main reason they're there is to discourage the cats from using that section as an impromptu litter box. The ajugas will replace the corn lilies. I am bringing in purples and blues to my garden as the pink and red flowers phase out. Of course, the bright yellow and russet marigolds and the yellow lotus are an anomalous splash of color but they're kind of off on their own, anyway. And they do cheer me up so.

I got a lot of chores done outside as well as inside, and I'm sore from it, but boy do I feel morally superior. At least until I look at the rug. Ahem.
