My dream came true. The horrible deli place next door went out of business and a sushi place opened in its place. Not amazingly good sushi, but better than the Chinese-run sushi place up the street, and closer than the really excellent sushi restaurant Bonsai which is a ten minute walk. When you only have 45 minutes for lunch, closer is better. Now if only the Chinese would forget about sushi and open a real Chinese restaurant I'd be in heaven.

Went to Biology tonight and discovered the final in two weeks will be closed book. Bummer. I haven't memorized a blessed thing this term as all our tests have been take-homes. Very luckily for me 90% of it will be on Genetics, the chapter we're reading right now. I can memorize a chapter, I can't memorize an entire textbook. I'll have to take wild guesses at the remaining 10% but I hope some of the semester's information has sunk in. I was very pleased that our professor decided to give a surprise extra credit to those of us who came back to class after the break. About half the class disappears then, so it was a nice reward for those of us who have been faithful about attendence.

I am in the process of letting my seedling transplants harden off, and they survived their first twenty four hours outside just fine. A good thing, too, as it was tremendously hot during that time, in the high eighties at least. If they live through that they'll thrive the rest of the year. Now I have to plant the canteloupe seeds. I won't start them as seedling in trays, though, they don't like being transplanted. I'll have to make little melon mounds for them along the back fence and remember to water daily until they're established. Things dry out around here so fast.

Maybe I'll experiment with my plants like Gregor Mendel. I wonder if I could get extra credit for demonstrating a Mendelian ratio?
