Today was, as a matter of fact, a much better day. Today I found out that Agent A will not be returning to work after her vacation, but will train Genny, the new receptionist/agent, for a week and then go on disability. I also found out that Agent B will be given her freedom (and a reasonable severence packet) immediately upon her return next week afterher vacation. Not only that, the boss has already hired a new agent to replace her, and he used to work for Ambassador Travel in Nashville, my old firm. I met him today, and I don't recognise him, but he seems to have been an outside sales agent with the country music division so that would make sense; no one in the rest of the company ever had much to do with that group. Is that weird or what? This means I jump two slots in seniority, too, which is good as far as picking vacation times. But the best news of all is I got a 10 percent raise. I didn't even ask for a review. I was rewarded for being a team player and just doing the hard work without complaining. Well, much. I mean, we are talking about The Agency That Never Shuts Up.

Life is good in other ways, too. My father has recovered his full strength after a minor but necessary operation that was successful. I got a letter from him today mentioning he will be playing 18 holes this week which is really good news. He hasn't had the stamina or the mobility (due to that little surgical problem) to play that much golf in about two years now so I'm terribly pleased. Of course, I still think playing golf is a weird sport but that's mainly because I've never tried whacking an eensy ball several hundred feet in a specific direction trying to get it to drop into a tiny hole in the ground while the wind blows and people in plaid pants drive around me in bizarre little vehicles. I'll stick with bowling. At least there the plaid-wearers aren't driving while I'm lining up my shot.
